Who is Lazarus Naturals?

Lazarus Naturals, with headquarters in Portland OR, uses the tag line: Designed by nature, perfected by science.  This seems an apt decree given that they utilize an alcohol extraction process which actively converts acid derivatives of cannabinoids back to the non-acid version via decarboxylation (for example it converts CBDa to CBD). Use of kosher alcohol for extraction keeps them green, and since distillation removes the alcohol it potentially can be recycled for use again in a future batch.

The science part also comes in the testing.  The raw material lot (harvested bulk hemp) is tested.  The in-process is tested, and the final product is tested as well.  They don’t test (or at least report) microbiological tests and considering the alcohol extraction and temperatures (248F), it is highly unlikely that there’s any microbiological contamination after that treatment!

The company was started four years ago by CEO Sequoia Price-Lazarus.  In 2017 and again in 2018, they were awarded Brand of the Year by CBDOilUsers.com.  That speaks volumes about the dedication to quality, price, and service this company has.

Pricing for a high-quality product is one of their leading qualities.  They lead in low prices. They are recommended for beginners and those specifically seeking least costly products.  Having their own farms allows them to own and control the process start to finish which is unusual in the industry today.

Throughout the website, they are very careful to make it clear that the products are offered as food supplements, and that they make no claim regarding the therapeutic benefits of their products.  They do encourage you to do research to determine how it might help you.

They also are a modern company in that they are concerned about their community.  This is shown by their green approach and the various programs they offer to help groups which may need financial assistance such as those with long-term disability, low income, and veterans can obtain up to 40% discounts.

What are the products?

Lazarus Naturals offer a wide variety of products.  They have tinctures, isolates, pet products and balms. They also sell an RSO (Rick Simpson Oil).  All are fully made in the USA, non-GMO source material, THC – free (tested at less than 0.3% as required for US sales). Generally, the CBD extract is dissolved in a carrier oil which is primarily fractionated coconut oil and are vegan and gluten-free.  This is done because the fractionated coconut oil has its own health benefits, and it is lighter and easier to dispense than other similar oils. There is a very nice article describing this on their web site here.

Tinctures

Lazarus Naturals CBD Review TinctureSeveral flavor variants are offered.  These come in both “normal” and high potency versions.

High potency (50 mg/ml) flavor variants come in 2 sizes: 750 mg and 3000 mg.  Flavors are Tropical and Wintermint. Prices vary from $40-125 depending on what specifically is ordered. A flavorless version of these sizes is also offered.

“Normal” tinctures are sold at 15 mg/ml.  These are offered in an unflavored variety. There are 3 sizes – 225 mg, 900 mg, and 1800 mg.  Prices range from $12-70, making this an exceptional bargain for someone just wanting to try CBD for the first time ($12 unit price).

High potency tinctures are also available.  This is a full spectrum variety offered at 50 mg/ml and in three sizes: 750 mg, 3000 mg and 6000 mg.  Prices for this option range from $32-200.

Isolates

One of the more interesting items offered on this site are “isolates”.  There are four options in this category. There’s a single pack, a 4 pack and a 50 pack of Terpene infused and raw CBD isolates.  Prices range from $30-1100. These are offered in flavors called “raw”, Hawaiian Citrus, Lemon Lime, and Valencia Orange. Raw is unflavored and has no added terpenes. The flavored varieties have many terpenes that are added to 50 or 100 PPM levels.  You can check out test results of lot sold to see what all is there – it’s quite a list!

Lazarus Naturals CBD Review IsolatesFor those who are interested in perhaps crafting their own items, the fourth item in this category is a bulk size of essentially pure CBD (not whole plant extract).  These are offered at 20 grams (yes grams!) or 50 grams (again – yes, that’s grams!). Prices are $450 and $1000. They can provide custom quantities of larger amounts, but you need to work out delivery and quantities with them directly (can’t order this directly off the site). This might be of interest to someone wanting larger quantities for cooking for example.

Pet Product

The Pet tincture is 15 mg/ml in fractionated coconut oil. They offer 225 mg and 900 mg sizes which are priced at $12 and $38.

Balms

Lazarus Naturals CBD Review BalmsBalms are offered in 3 varieties.  Cedar Citrus, Lavender and Soothing Mint are the options here.  Each comes in two sizes, 300 mg and 1200 mg, that are offered at $15 and $50.  Half a teaspoon contains 50 mg CBD and it is intended for topical use only. Using the Cedar Citrus as example, the balm itself contains: organic mango butter, organic beeswax, fractionated coconut oil, organic cedar oil, Valencia orange oil, hemp extract, oleic acid, and isopropyl myristate.  The other vary slightly in order to achieve the flavor desired.

RSO

Lazarus Naturals CBD Review RSOAdditionally, Lazarus Naturals offers an RSO (Rick Simpson Oil).  These come in a 10 ml and 50 ml size priced at $40 and $180. For those not familiar, Rick Simpson Oil is a full spectrum alcohol extract that a man named Rick Simpson developed to treat his cancer. He had metastatic basal skin cancer. This kind of cancer is considered to be relatively harmless, but it is still recommended for removal due to the possibility of disfigurement.  After finding little help with traditional treatments, Rick sought his own solution in the form of THC Oil via a home-made hemp plant extract. He claims that treatment with this oil eliminated his cancer and that he’s been cancer-free for almost 15 years. As with other Lazarus products, they begin with the same low THC hemp plant and use their kosher alcohol extraction process. This product is concentrated to 100 mg/ml and is provided in a syringe to allow more precise dosing.  They are also again very careful to say that they make no recommendation or assurance related to this or any other product as the FDA will not allow that.

Capsules

Lazarus Naturals CBD Review CapsulesThey offer several different kinds of capsules.  Some are formulated for specific targets (energy and relaxation).  The others offer different amount of CBD per capsule with sizes from 10 mg to 25mg, 50 mg, 100 mg and 200 mg.  Most of these offer more than one size of capsules per bottle, and prices vary from $15 to as much as $300.

The Energy version includes caffeine, Vitamin B12, and Theanine in addition to the CBD.  The Relax version adds Ashwagandha Extract, L-Tryptophan, Chamomile Extract, Vitamin B6, and L-Theanine to CBD extract. The CBD capsules are formulated to include d-Limonene, Myrcene, Beta-Caryophyllene.

Testing

As mentioned above, there is lots of testing that occurs, and unlike many competitors who only show representative results if any at all, they actually post all lot results on line.  Each batch from the field is tested for herbicides and pesticides. Due to the fact that they do not accept batches that contain these, they felt it was not necessary to test the final product.  But, as many competitors do this final product testing, they will begin adding that testing to their final product in the very near future. They do show THC and CBD contents, as well as other product appropriate testing is done by a third-party lab.

I’ve been taking Lazarus for the past month or two and have noticed a huge decrease in my anxiety. I take the 25mg capsules and have the 3,000mg dropper. Interesting to see so many of you that got really high off the products. I’ve taken up to 100mg of the capsules in a day and never felt high once. I am super sensitive to THC and try to avoid products that contain high amounts since I hate the psychoactive part, and have been relieved to not experience it with Lazarus. Their products has truly made a huge difference in my life

Negative Thoughts

Instead of the traditional CO2 extraction method, Lazarus uses an alcohol extraction method which could be better or worse depending on customer preference. They also do not do a great job of explaining exactly what is in their products. For example, the terpene outline is never shown or discussed. Although, this is probably to keep the information proprietary. They also use high temperatures to get rid of the acidic components in their products, which they say is a good thing – however, things like CBDa seem to have some positive data for health benefits. Lastly, several customer reviews stated that the Lazarus products got them “high” (specifically the high potency ones), however this is likely due to variety of how people process the CBD because all their products contain less than 0.3% THC which is not supposed to make people high.

Final Thoughts

While many competitors offer material processed by CO2, Lazarus process utilizes an alcohol extraction process. Both options are considered green, but it’s possible that each offers a slightly different profile of terpenes and non-CBD phyto-cannabinoids.  All of them have devout fans, and there is no definitive clinical data to suggest which might be better for what. With that said, there’s no doubt that Lazarus Naturals is devoted to providing a very high-quality product at a very reasonable price.
